Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) to Offer Online Courses to the Afghan School’s Students

I’m pleased to announce that the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) has generously agreed to offer students from the Afghan School access to SAIT’s online courses. With a diverse program that includes courses in Business and Tourism, Construction, Energy, Health and Public Safety, Information and Communcations Technology and Manufacturing and Automation, SAIT is an internationally recognized institution with more than 90 years of educational history. SAIT graduates enjoy a 98% graduate employment rate, while 99% of employers are satisfied with SAIT training. The specifics of SAIT’s assistance to the Afghan school are currently being discussed.

The Afghan School pilot project continues to move forward at a rapid pace. Ehsan has provided a detailed estimate of our initial costs, and only a few steps remain before the pilot project can be approved and then implemented. For the pilot project, we will be establishing a small classroom that will permit better access to the school’s facilities, and which will provide between five to ten Internet-enabled computers for students’ use. Students will then have the opportunity to benefit from SAIT’s extensive online courses. The pilot project is to last approximately six months, and will give us a good idea of what issues need to be addressed if the scale of the project is to be expanded.

Although funding has been established for the costs associated with opening and operating the Afghan School’s new classroom, we are still investigating different options as far as acquiring the school’s computers. If you happen to know of any organizations or individuals who may be interested in providing computers to this worthwhile project, please leave a comment below.

As always, the greatest gift you can make to this project is to tell others about the work that we’re doing. Financial support, although important, is no match for a generous intellectual investment. We welcome whatever comments and suggestions you’re willing to offer.

Please check back soon for the specific details of the Afghan School pilot project.
