What Makes This Project Distinctive?
There are numerous established, well-known charities in the world and in Afghanistan in particular that support worthwhile causes.
What, then, makes this project distinctive?
Efficiency: All of the money donated to this project goes directly to the costs of establishing and maintaining the Afghan-Canadian Community Centre. No funds are used to pay for salaries or other “administrative” purchases that are not directly associated with the project. Neither myself nor any other individual working on this project receive any form of monetary compensation for our work. We put in the time and energy for this project not because it is our job, but because we truly believe that our work is meaningful, and will have lasting results.
Lasting Impact: Education has a long-term effect not only on the individuals who benefit from the instruction, but also on the communities that they live in. Once knowledge has been made available, it can be shared as easily as a few words of instruction, or through a simple demonstration. Although necessary during crises, food and medical aid have a limited ability to result in lasting change. Education can effect real change, even when other resources are lacking. Even a well-funded business cannot succeed if it is not managed properly. A determined effort to support education can offer an entire community hope for the future.
Seeing the Difference: What happens when you donate to a charity? Many organizations lack the time and resources to keep you informed of what your donation has accomplished. By keeping this project small and focused, you will have the opportunity to see the long-term effect of education on the lives of the school’s students, and upon their communities. Imagine what it would feel like to know that students, who otherwise would be unable to enjoy the freedom to learn, now have hope for a better life as a result of your contribution.
A Local Solution for a Global Problem: This project began by asking the teachers and students in Kandahar what they needed in order to obtain skilled employment and improve their quality of life. Since the beginning, Ehsan and his teachers have been the driving force in determining how best to support the students in Kandahar. By drawing upon their cultural knowledge and educational experience, we’ve helped to ensure that this project most accurately reflects the needs and desires of the community it serves.
Should you be interested in supporting this project, please don’t hesitate to contact us. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to those of you who have already contacted us to offer your support.
