A poll released by World Public Opinion on December 14 2006 indicates that 92% of Afghans hold an unfavourable view of the Taliban, while only 16% believe that the Taliban are likely to return to power. However, a majority of Afghans (58%) believe that the progress made to rebuilding basic services such as schools, roads, hospitals and water supplies has been just fair (35%) or poor (23%). Those who were unsatisfied with the pace of reconstruction were more likely to express negative views about the presence of foreign soldiers and their country’s direction.
