I just thought I should write a few sentences to thank the team members in Kandahar, Kabul, Ottawa and New York for looking after ACCC during my leave. As I watched I saw everything from Carleton e-schooling, SAIT Distance Education Program/SAIT Business Diploma Program, Skype Program, ACCC regular classes, Education Generation Program, communication and ACCC Administration activities were highly satisfactorily administered. It does seem like ACCC has got a strong and cohesive team to serve people in need without any greed and selfishness.
I also thought I should name a few members of the team who worked very hard during these few days: Hashim and Qaseem, as always, kept our 70 computers in tip top conditions everyday for students use; Shir Mohammad Kandahari fully organized and coordinated Skype classes, schedules and programs and reported that now over 40 students of ACCC are positively enrolled on Skype communication program, the English language program; Hamayoon and Esmat organized and managed ACCC activities; Dawood assisted e-schooling students with their preparation for exam; Esmat and Ilyas worked on students profiles to complete for students education sponsorship; Esmat worked on handling contract services; Ryan and Ruiz wrote proposals; Ruiz also wrote a business course curriculum; Hamayoon, Esmat and Naghma organized a slide show about an Afghan woman hero for ACCC students and families; Ahmadi Sab supervised the Helmand training program while Abdullah supervised Zabul training programs. All teachers of ACCC, despite increased heat and other challenges in Kandahar, gave full attendance to their classes and shared knowledge and information with their hundreds of fellow sisters and brothers studying at ACCC. Ehsan/myself, Ryan and Vicky directed, coordinated and closely supervised all the programs.

Principles of Language Learning:

Language learning principles are generally sorted into three sub-groupings: Cognitive Principles, Affective Principals and Linguistic Principles. Principles are seen as theory derived from research, to which teachers need to match classroom practices. Here are some brief summaries of the principles that fall into each grouping:

Cognitive Principles:

Automaticity: Subconcious processing of language with peripheral attention to language forms;

Meaningful Learning: This can be contrasted to Rote Learning, and is thought to lead to better long term retention;

Anticipation of Rewards: Learners are driven to act by the anticipation of rewards, tangible or intangible;

Intrinsic Motivation: The most potent learning "rewards" are intrinsically motivated within the learner;

Strategic Investment: The time and learning strategies learners invest into the language learning process.

Affective Principles:

Language Ego: Learning a new language involves developing a new mode of thinking - a new language "ego";

Self-Confidence: Success in learning something can be equated to the belief in learners that they can learn it;

Risk-Taking: Taking risks and experimenting "beyond" what is certain creates better long-term retention;

Language-Culture Connection: Learning a language also involves learning about cultural values and thinking.

Linguistic Principles:

Native Language Effect: A learner's native language creates both facilitating and interfering effects on learning;

Interlanguage: At least some of the learner's development in a new language can be seen as systematic;

Communicative Competence: Fluency and use are just as important as accuracy and usage - instruction needs to be aimed at organizational, pragmatic and strategic competence as well as psychomotor skills.

This is a very brief overview of various language learning principles, drawn heavily from H. Douglas Brown's explanation (see resources for reference). You may be able to come up with more or different interpretations yourself. However you view language learning principles, these should form the basis or backdrop of the techniques you choose to use and the choices you make in the language learner classroom.

Few points for the teachers to remember and have a good class.

1: Know your students: Understand their learning
styles, strengths and weaknesses. Don't assume the whole class group learns the same way.

2:Make students take notes often and force them regularly review them. How can teachers do that? Surprisingly, each student in our Fish Bowl valued pop quizzes as the most effective way to "guarantee" students will pay attention in class, take notes and study them.

3: Start each class period by reviewing the previous class session's learnings and sum up learning at the end of each class period.

4: Lectures into sections for optimal retrieval of information. This was the most requested item for students. In order to take the best notes and confer with other students, students want teachers to employ lecture strategies.

The Role of Women in Society

Women are important in our society. Every woman has her own job or duty in this
modern society in which men are still the 'strongest gender';. We can´t forget that
women´s life is a lot more complicated than a man´s life. A woman has to take care of
her own personal life and if she is a mother , she has to take care also about her
children´s life too. Marriaged women have lots of worries and believe it or not , they
carry out a more stressfull life than marriaged men.

Several times in my life I have heard commentaries about the lack of importance of
women. I am personally against these kind of commentaries. In my life the most
important person I remember is my mother. She is a professional also , but besides her
profession , she always took good care of me. We can´t forget that all human beings
come right from a woman. We can´t ignore that is a woman the one who has to live
with her own life and also learn the right cares for rescent born babies in order to
garantee our safety and the chance to survive.

Hi Everyone,

I have an interesting story to share.

It was 2002, when we heard that a training program in computer and English language has opened under a man whose name is Ehsan who has recently returned from Pakistan to serve his Afghan brothers and sisters. Teaching English and computer to women by men was a strange news in Kandahar. But parents said that Ehsan taught both men and women in Pakistan and there he strictly applied cultural values, respect and moral conducts. Soon my parents wanted me to join the school. After I studied happily for a few months, the school got crowded, many girls came and Mr. Ehsan decided that children should leave as he announced that his program should remain only as an adult education program. So he came to our class one day and asked the teacher if he could speak to the students. As soon as I saw him I slipped down the chair and hid between chairs. But he saw me and took me and all the other children out of the classroom. The other children left for homes, but I did not. Instead, I stood under a tree there and continued to weep in despair. I was deeply disappointed. Ehsan showed up again and walked towards me. I was more afraid and thought that he is going to take me out of the school now. As he came nearer, he was not aiming at me actually. He got into his car. As he started his car to drive, he saw me in tears. He immediately stopped the car and got off the car and asked me why I was weeping. I told him I was crying because he took me out of the class. On telling him this, I noticed how sad he became (that I was sorry for him) and how tender he became and how much pity he took upon me. He took me to his office and called all the teachers to his office. He told all of them to allow the children back to classes.

Happily I was in the class again. I studied hard and always got first position. Today I am a teacher teaching English to many other students. I am paid well and I am supporting my self, my family and my country __ Congratulations Ehsan! You deserve the Honorary Degree. How wise the people of Canada are to give this honor to the right person at the right time.

Dear Patrons,

Thank you very much for leaving these wonderful comments and compliments. I am deeply honored to have received them and would like to dedicate this honor to you all. I could not have made this achievement unless I had had your prayers and good wishes. Upon this, I would like to thank the great people of Canada for their recognition of my long drawn out efforts in promotion of education, enlightenment and human rights in the difficult areas of Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Dear Khan _ Thank you for the beautiful comment and suggestions. Your suggestions were taken into consideration and both the public suggestion box and ACCC visitors’ comments book have been put up at the ACCC.
