ACCC Director Ehsanullah Ehsan presents a letter of recognition to Mr Karzai

On July 3rd 2011, Mr. Mehmood Khan Karzai, the Head of AFCO International and Ayno Foundation announced that he will provide the Afghans Learning and Development Organization (ALDO) and its subsidiary education institutions, the Afghan-Canadian Community Center (ACCC) and the newly established Afghan-American Career Academy (AACA), with 10,000 square metres land in Ayno Meena for the construction of a building and campus to support these institutions. Mr. Karzai also agreed to donate one quarter of the construction costs up to US$100,000, as well as transportation for students.

Mr Karzai addresses ACCC students and guests

Mr. Ehsanullah Ehsan, the founder of ALDO said, “This is a great development in the expansion of my education activities in Kandahar region and the self-sustainability of the ALDO, ACCC and the new AACA.” Ehsan also noted that, since opening in January 2006, the ACCC alone – funded by individual donors, the Canadian International Learning Foundation and, the Government of Canada via the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) – has provided professional education to more than 1,760 Kandahar youth, facilitating both internationally-recognized online and campus courses in Business Management, Information Technology, and Communications. Internet for the Center is donated by Roshan Telecom.

The Center itself employs more than 70 teachers, administrators, and support staff, including 9 female teachers, and advances its courses using 100 updated computers. Ehsan also said that more than 600 graduates, both men and women, have secured highly-paid employment with national and international organizations as a result of the education provided by the ACCC. The Center has also developed academic partnerships with the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), Canada e-School, Vital English, the US-based National Educator Program, and the Alliance for International Women’s Rights. A permanent campus will not only help the ACCC to reach a greater number of students, it will also significantly reduce the amount of money that ALDO currently spends on rent and maintenance, thereby making it easier for the ACCC to become financially self-sustainable.

Mr. Mehmood Karzai was impressed with the education services provided by ALDO, ACCC and AACA and wanted to help these organizations to further their education services for the youth of Kandahar region. He therefore proposed convene a meeting of Kandahar businessmen to provide support for ALDO’s fundraising campaign. The SAIT Architectural Technologies program has also generously agreed to donate the time of students and faculty to help design the newly proposed campus.

I would like to thank Mr.Mahmood Karzai so much for his generous donation of $1,000,000 and land to ACCC.
As we know, needy families and individuals in our community go without proper food, shelter, and essential medical care every day due to a variety of factors including low wages, job loss, injuries, illness, age, domestic violence, or divorce. While all of us are susceptible to hard times, children and the elderly are at the most risk, and they make up the largest number of clients we serve but the greatest thing and the base is to provide education and help education sector so that the base of our country gets strong, and stands on its own feet.
With the generous support of people like Mahmood Karzai, Ryan and other donors, ACCC will be able to help many of these families and individuals not only to meet the educational needs, but to work toward a brighter future with other programs.
Last but not the least, Mr.Ehsan ullah Ehsan who is a bridge in our education life.
Thank you again, and we look forward to your continued support.

    19th August – Afghanistan’s Independence Day

    I hope fighting stops,
I hope the roots of hate, war, fights, disunity, anger, selfishness, and killings vanish.
I hope one day the light of peace turns on and brightens hearts of the people.
I hope one day the child who has just woken up from sleeping goes to school without any fear and her mother who is just willing her daughter to get education doesn’t feel that something is going to harm my child.
I hope one day the person just forgets about the tribes, nations and belongings and just connects. Why are people themselves pouring poison into their lives? Why don’t they think that they are the child on the same mother and father? Tribes, religions, cultures are made up from the same child. These are just to divide them in sections so that they don’t mess up, but we have taken the disadvantage of it and that’s WAR.

Why every country is having its own independence day though it’s the same planet-earth, same people, same natural existing? Independence is not independence till we get together; independence is not about having your country from others hands, but it’s how you share your humanity with others, and how you share love. Independence is not taking your section of land and celebrating it, but it’s how you closed the ways to other beings, who are the same like you, the beautiful creatures!

We can call any day Independence Day, in which we are happy, in which peace has opened its wings, in which calmness and relaxation is there (peace of heart and mind).

It’s not our independence day today; it will be that time, when a mother won’t be worried of losing her child, when a father won’t be scared of seeing his son die while only bringing one piece of food for the family. When a wife won’t be scared of becoming widowed next day of marriage. When a child won’t die because of lack of doctors during birth.

Independence Day is not having electricity in our homes, we want light in our heart, Independence Day is not having internet in your computer, we want unity and connections. Independence Day is not sitting inside house with your family, but it’s how you get out and enjoy the life with others.

I hope my words are not harsh enough but it’s how I feel about a country’s independence.

Free yourself from hatred, peace will come and knock your door!
